About the Property
At Esprit de la Mer, the name is not decorative. Spirit of the Sea feels rather literal here, with the villa set dramatically on the cliffs of Terres Basses above Baie Rouge, where the Caribbean seems to occupy half the house before anyone has even unpacked.
This five-bedroom, five-bathroom villa is made for up to 10 guests, with every bedroom arranged with a king bed and its own en-suite bathroom. That gives the house an easy, grown-up sense of privacy, useful for couples traveling together, multigenerational families, or a group that prefers no one gets the lesser room. No awkward negotiations. No polite little grimaces over hallway bathrooms.
Arrival is through an elegant courtyard framed by tropical gardens, opening toward a sunlit terrace, a heated private pool, and wide views of Baie Rouge. The living spaces are airy and open-plan, drawing the eye outward to the water, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, TV, and a stereo system keeping the indoors comfortable when the afternoon sun gets a little too persuasive.
The terrace is the villa’s natural gathering place, with space for long breakfasts, poolside afternoons, and barbecue dinners that drift into the evening. A path descends toward a gazebo, then farther down to a small hidden seating area set among stepping stones, a quiet perch for watching the surf strike the cliffs below. It is theatrical, yes, but in the way the sea can be theatrical when it has no interest in being subtle.
The kitchen is well equipped for relaxed villa living or private chef-style meals, with an oven, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, cookware, dishes, and silverware. Housekeeping, laundry facilities, parking, a generator, and safety equipment add the practical backbone that lets the prettier parts do their work.

Esprit de la Mer is a polished Caribbean cliff villa with a strong sense of place: private, sea-facing, comfortable, and close enough to the water that Baie Rouge becomes part of the daily routine. Morning coffee, late swim, sunset at the gazebo. The house has already set the schedule.

Spectacular Villa — We’ve just returned from our latest trip to St Martin. The Villa we rented, Esprit de la Mer, in the Terres Basse area was spectacular! The pics are good, but the Villa is better! We’re well traveled and have stayed in many rentals around the world; we highly recommend this particular villa. It’s extremely spacious- we really never even used the ‘formal’ dining/living, but it’s a beautiful and comfortable space if needed. Probably our favorite part of it was all of the very comfy and strategically placed outdoor seating areas. Breezes abound, and the views are unparalleled! The pool is very large, and the temperature was perfect! The kitchen is very well stocked and large enough for a group to prepare meals in comfort. Two refrigerators and freezers, along with a commercial ice maker made everything so convenient! We used one just for beverages 😉 Further, my husband is a contractor and he was very impressed with the condition of the property; not a spiderweb in site, and all was pristine!
10/10! — The whole experience was a 10. The home is magnificent and the setting is second to none. The team nailed it. We cannot wait to come back to Esprit de la Mer. Thank you for everything.
Best view on the island — I have to say this villa has the best view on the island. It has 270’ degree view of the water. Esprit de la Mer is amazing!

Wonderful Villa — What a wonderful villa. Lots of space to chill during the day or in the evening. Very spacious rooms with a nice view. Each room had something different beautiful. Super large swimming pool with plenty of sunbathing opportunities. I would recommend this villa to everyone if you go to Sint Maarten with a group.

Beautiful Property — Beautiful property with lots of space . Gorgeous vistas and all modern Our concierge was lovely and we were happily surprised that pick ups at the airport here and back home were included as well as a car . The property is apparently newly renovated and is modern , clean and even had cleaning service available daily although we just used it every other day . Perfect way to spend a 65th birthday.
